NOTICE OF ELECTION

By-Election 2023
Elections will be held for the following Office:
Councillor, Ward 2 – one (1) to be elected
Election Day
Voting day is Monday September 18, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the following location:
Ward 2 – Norwich Community Centre - 53 Stover Street South, Norwich
Advance Voting Day
An Advance Voting Day will be held at the Norwich Community Centre, 53 Stover Street South, Norwich as follows:
Advance Poll – Saturday September 9, 2023 - 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Voter Notification Cards
Information on where you vote on Election Day will be available on your voter notification card, to be mailed out on approximately August 25, 2023. If you do not receive your card please contact the Municipal Office, Clerks Department.
Proxy Voting
Electors that are on the Voters’ List and unable to vote on Voting Day or on a day of Advance Voting may apply to obtain a Certificate appointing another eligible elector to vote on their behalf. Prescribed application forms to appoint such voting proxies are available at the Township of Norwich Clerks’ Department. All applications must be certified by the Township Clerk (or designate) at the Clerk’s Office during regular office hours (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) August 8, 2023 to September 18, 2023. Certificates will also be issued between the hours of 12:00 noon and 5:00 p.m. on the date of Advance Vote. Certificates to vote by Proxy will not be issued after 4:30 p.m. on September 18, 2023.
Identification Required
The Municipal Elections Act requires all voters to present identification before receiving a ballot. When going to vote, electors should bring their Voter Notification Card along with at least one other piece of prescribed identification that shows your name and qualifying address. Acceptable identification includes an Ontario Drivers Licence, Photo Health Card, Motor Vehicle Permit, Property Tax Assessment or Utility Bill. Who can Vote?
To vote in the municipal election, you must be a qualified elector. That means you must be:
- a resident of the Township of Norwich or a non-resident owner or tenant of lands in the Township of Norwich or the spouse of such non-resident owner or tenant;
- a Canadian citizen;
- at least 18 years of age; and
- not prohibited from voting by law
If you live in the Township of Norwich and own or rent more than one property in the Township, you must vote where you live. You can only vote once in the Township of Norwich.
